Day 172: Church Members

This morning, Brandon and I officially joined the church we've been attending for the past year and a half. We were both raised going to church and, in fact, kind of met at church. Brandon's dad was the president of the committee that hired my dad at Immanuel Lutheran in Compton way back in 1993.

Lots has happened since then. My dad is at a new church now, and Brandon and I have grown up, gotten married, and moved out into the world on our own.

Since moving to Florida over four years ago, Brandon and I have tried only a couple different churches. Our schedules sometimes make it difficult to get there on Sunday mornings (yes, the typical excuse of the 20-something-year-olds who just want to sleep in on the weekends), but for a long time we've been looking for a place where we can belong.

Last spring, the pastor of this church helped us with our pre-marriage counseling, and during that time, we decided we should officially join the church. So today, we did. It doesn't really change anything, except that now we have offering envelopes with our names printed on them.

The reason it was a big deal for me, I think, is that we joined this church as a family. We are no longer Brandon Eames and Charlotte Erickson, members of two different families who happen to belong to the same church. Now we are Brandon and Charlotte Eames, the family, and we've joined a church as such.

I like that.
