Day 177: Our First Christmas

Merry Christmas!!! Yes, it is only December 24, Christmas Eve, 2010. But Brandon has to work the holiday tomorrow; so we celebrated our first Christmas as a married couple today.

It started with a bottle of wine, continued with mountains of presents (and a few more bottles of wine), and ended with a huge spread of fixings for fondue! What a lovely day and one that I think we will remember fondly for years and years to come.

Brandon and I still act like little kids when it comes to Christmas. All new gifts get shaken just as soon as they get placed under the tree. We try constantly to trick each other into revealing the secrets contained in the pretty packages. And, when the big day finally comes, we rip into those gifts like our lives depended on it!

And, being that it was our first married Christmas, we really spoiled each other this year. My big gift was a nook. This is Barnes and Noble's version of the Kindle, an e-reader on which you can download thousands and thousands of books. I'd been thinking about getting one for a while, and I had a feeling Brandon would make my wish come true this Christmas. He did not disappoint; and so far, neither has my nook - what a cool toy!!! On top of that, I got a beautiful heart necklace, a new watch, a bottle of X-Rated Fusion Liqueur, and two boxes of Ferrero Rocher (one of my favorite treats, but one I really only get on very special occasions - like today!).

Brandon didn't have any really big wishes this year, but I was able to come up with several medium and a few small things that all added up to one huge smile on his face! He got Bears floormats for his truck, a new X-Box game, a fancy-shmancy thingy that lets him plug his iPod into his truck stereo and play it through a radio station. He also got a couple books about guitars, a DVD, a few gift cards, and some Andes mints (a Christmas classic for him).

We opened our gifts from each other slowly, savoring the moments and feeling grateful, with each new gift we unwrapped, that we have each other to spoil.

When we had opened all of the gifts and thrown away all of the paper, we got started on our fondue dinner. We had steak and chicken and lobster, which we cooked up in screaming-hot oil in the fondue pot we got for our wedding. On the side we had broccoli, green peppers, fried potatoes, and soft pretzel pieces that we dipped in a delicious cheese fondue. The food seemed endless, but we actually did a pretty good job on it. We washed it all down with yet one more bottle of wine. And then, exhausted, we went to bed.

In the past six months, we've shared so many special moments and made a million wonderful memories. And ach moment of today was yet one more. It was a perfect first Christmas for the Eames family!
