Surprised? Don't be...
It's not ours! But it is our niece, who was born tonight at 7:40, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. We welcome with joy and excitement Eliana Leann Eames, who has made Brandon and me an uncle an aunt for the very first time. We are thrilled!
Those who know us well know that Brandon and I are not sure that we want kids of our own. Maybe after we've been married a few years and are more settled with our careers, we will change our minds. But at this point, neither of us has the urge to be a parent.
We are, however, thrilled to be an uncle and an aunt. Because, you know, we get all the perks of parenthood without all the fuss of it! We probaly won't see much of Eliana, being that she lives over 1500 miles away, but I think we'll be able to enjoy her even from a distance. After all, whether Brandon and I are ready to bring our own child into the world or not, it simply cannot be denied that, when a baby is born, so is an incredible amount of joy.
I haven't met my first niece, but I love her with all my heart. And I already have this sweet little fantasy of taking her to meet Mickey someday. See? Aunts are super cool!
